Increased Rating by the Care Inspectorate! We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded increased ratings of 5s or 4s in all areas assessed by the Care Inspectorate following a recent visit to our Home. The report, published today, commended our dedication to providing high-quality care and highlighted the wonderful relationships between our staff, residents, and their families. Our expansive activities programme, a source of great pride for us, was additionally praised in the report. The recognition of resident involvement and choice, along with the inclusive nature of our activities, is great to see! Our digital and technological provision were also noted, with our Facebook outreach and Virtual Reality headsets, a recent feature in local paper the Courier, acknowledged as creative ways for residents to connect with family and friends. As many of you know, we have run an extensive refurbishment programme over the past year and we’re so proud of our welcoming, comfortable and modern décor! The report praised our newly renovated home environment and the inclusion of “views of residents and relatives about these upgrades,” in choosing colour schemes and furniture! Our staff were deservedly praised in the report for their continued hard work and dedication, and the positive impact of our training programme was also highlighted. To read the full report, please click the link below. https://www.careinspectorate.com/index.php/care-services?detail=CS2011301452 We want to express our sincere gratitude to our incredible team, residents, and their loved ones for being an integral part of the Pitkerro Care Centre family. Virtual Reality Experiences We are proud at Pitkerro Care Centre to provide our residents with a well rounded and creative activity programme. Our offering includes top of the line Virtual Reality technology which allows our residents to travel the world, from the Grand Canyon to the ocean! Our residents absolutely love using the VR technology; Ian McCraw, a published author who has written several books about Dundee, was able to “go back in time and experience old Dundee,” as he had written about in his books. Additionally, May Gray fulfilled her dream to “go to New York to see the sights, especially the Empire State Building and Central Park.” VR has been shown to have a variety of physical and mental health benefits, including improved levels of energy, socialisation, and mood, as well as being particularly useful for those with dementia. We’re happy to share that The Courier UK featured us in their paper quoting our Home Manager Lynsey Robbie saying ““The residents absolutely adore using the VR technology. Once they put on the headsets, they’re in a different world and they can’t stop smiling and laughing. In a short space of time, we have already been able to see the positive impact the technology has had on all our residents’ wellbeing.”

Scarecrow Competition In the run-up to Halloween and as part of our Autumn festivities, Hudson Healthcare ran an inter-Home scarecrow competition in the month of October! We here at Pitkerro took this competition very seriously and wanted to have all residents and staff as involved as possible. We initially held a ballot to decide our favourite scarecrow design, with more than one idea winning the vote. We then reached out to our local community for hay donations, which was generously answered by a local farmer. Our ‘Help Wanted’ poster resulted in donations of other materials such as clothes and wigs, which we were delighted to receive. Our construction phase brought everyone into the mix with all hands on deck! Our wonderful residents helped make the heads of the scarecrows and the spider’s web, with staff and children from Butterflies Nursery helping to create the scarecrows' bodies. All visitors were looped in to help out! Our final product was a great collaborative effort that wowed residents, staff and relatives, and we were delighted to be named winners of the Hudson Scarecrow Competition! This was a fantastic experience for all involved and we are incredibly proud and grateful to all who helped.
