Erewash MP Maggie Throup was the guest of honour at a party organised to mark National Care Home Open Day last week (Friday 28 June).
The MP spent time speaking with residents, relatives and other visitors at the home during a beach-themed party held at Sandiacre Court Care Centre, where there was a packed itinerary that also included musical entertainment, a barbecue, cake stall – and even a magician.
National Care Home Open Day is a nationwide initiative which sees care homes across the country open their doors to the local residents and visitors from all walks of life and is an opportunity for people to see the important role that care homes can play in their communities. Staff at the 81 bed purpose-built home spent weeks planning this special event and pulled out the stops to ensure that it was a day to remember for all involved.
Maggie Throup, Erewash MP, said: “I was delighted to meet and chat with everyone at Sandiacre Court Care Centre during my recent visit to celebrate National Care Home Open Day 2019.This care home is a first class example of the type of modern social care setting that we should expect to receive in our old age. The activities were stimulating and the facilities in the home itself are of an extremely high standard. I very much look forward to visiting all at the Care Home again in the near future.”
Kirsty Carter, Manager of Sandiacre Court Care Centre, said: “We were so pleased that Maggie was able to join us and delighted that she threw herself into proceedings with such enthusiasm! This was a day to remember for everyone and we hope that residents, relatives and visitors enjoyed it as much as we did. Care Home Open Day is such a nice opportunity to celebrate our links with the local community and we are already looking forward to next year’s event!”
