Portishead care home residents treated to relaxing voyage

Residents at a Portishead care home enjoyed a gentle canal trip last week (Tuesday 17 April 2018) thanks to a charity’s generosity.

Residents from Haven Lodge care home were in high spirits on the canal cruise organised by The Willow Trust, a charity established to help provide people who are disabled with a therapeutic day on the water.

The high-spirited adventurers were treated to a five hour round-trip on a specially modified boat, which took them on a relaxing excursion along the stunning Gloucester-Sharpness Canal. A picnic lunch was specially arranged by Haven Lodge staff and Willow Trust volunteers, which kept spirits high despite the unseasonable and damp weather.

Haven Lodge resident Bessie Eccles said: “I had a good time despite the cold and I’d love to go again”.

Another Haven Lodge resident, Rosemarie Yeeles, added:  “It was very enjoyable and I would definitely go again”.
